Welfare cases down 0.6%

The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance caseload dropped by 1,207 cases to 211,065 in July, down 0.6% from June, the Social Welfare Department announced today.

 

The total number of recipients was 297,957.

 

Low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 2% to 2,013, while old age cases dropped by 0.8% to 118,684. Single parent cases slightly declined 0.5% to 23,355. Permanent disability cases slightly decreased 0.1% to 17,393.

 

Ill-health cases rose by 0.2% to 27,001.

 

Unemployment cases decreased by 0.4% to 18,642 on a month-to-month basis, representing a rise of about 48.1% compared with January 2020 when Hong Kong just started its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The average number of applications for unemployment cases between May and July was 500 per month, up 0.8% from the April to June figure.
