July 5, 2022

An exhibition to enhance the public understanding of future planning and infrastructure development in Hong Kong is scheduled to open tomorrow at City Gallery and the adjoining Edinburgh Place in Central.

Jointly presented by the Development Bureau and the Planning Department, the goal of the exhibition is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan, Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong and Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn officiated at the opening ceremony today.

Speaking at the event, Director of Planning Ivan Chung said the exhibition shows that despite the numerous challenges encountered by the Hong Kong SAR since its establishment, the city shall embrace new opportunities with undaunted spirit and collaborative efforts on planning and development to build a better future.

He highlighted that the "Building a New Era for Hong Kong" exhibit is equipped with the city's first-ever large-scale interactive LED screen to showcase Hong Kong's planning and infrastructure.

It features various development highlights including the Northern Metropolis, the artificial islands in the Central Waters, the Airport City and infrastructures for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as well as the future development directions for Hong Kong.

Another exhibit introduces the planning concept and infrastructure development proposal of the artificial islands in the Central Waters.

Visitors will have the opportunity to become town planners and plan for their ideal third Core Business District of Hong Kong through the “Build the Islands of the Future” game.

The collected ideas will be incorporated into the big data repository for reference by the study team.

Additionally, the outdoor exhibition zone in Edinburgh Place integrates fun facts related to the sea, land and air infrastructure development of Hong Kong into a board game, illustrating the city's nfrastructural achievements, the interconnection with the bay area and Hong Kong's important role as an international gateway.

The exhibition will run until November 30 and admission is free.
