HK reports 190 virus cases

May 23, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 190 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 94 were detected by nucleic acid tests and 96 were identified via rapid antigen tests.

Among the new cases, 28 are imported while the rest are locally infected.

A total of 1,197,955 people have contracted the virus since the onset of the fifth wave of the epidemic, involving 9,157 deaths.

Separately, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Lai Fu House of Lai Kok Estate in Sham Shui Po.

People in the restricted area are required to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several housing estates in Southern, Wan Chai and Eastern districts, the respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.

Due to a number of positive cases, 49 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

The Government will reopen mobile specimen collection stations at Wah Kwai Estate in Pok Fu Lam and Park Island in Ma Wan tomorrow.

Moreover, the Department of Health announced that as some designated clinics under the Hospital Authority had ceased operation, the department's Red Ribbon Centre will resume public service tomorrow while the Yau Ma Tei Elderly Health Centre will reopen on May 26.
