1.9k COVID-19 cases detected

April 10, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is looking into 1,921 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 18 are imported and the rest are locally infected.

Among the new cases, 888 were detected by nucleic acid tests while 1,033 were identified via rapid antigen tests.

More than 1.17 million people have contracted the virus since the onset of the fifth wave of the epidemic, involving 8,557 deaths.

Meanwhile, as Turkish Airlines passenger flight TK083 from Istanbul, Turkey on April 8 and Japan Airlines passenger flight JL029 from Tokyo, Japan on April 9 had three passengers each who tested positive upon arrival, the Department of Health prohibited the landing of passenger flights from Istanbul and Tokyo operated by the respective airlines in Hong Kong.

The ban lasts from April 10 to 16 for Turkish Airlines and from April 11 to 17 for Japan Airlines.

This afternoon, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Tung Yat House of Lei Tung Estate in Ap Lei Chau, citing the viral load in sewage, the information of relevant positive cases and other circumstantial factors. People in this restricted area must undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Separately, due to a number of positive cases, 25 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

Booking service will be provided for the mobile specimen collection stations at Edinburgh Place in Central, Wong Tai Sin Square, Maple Street Playground in Sham Shui Po, Tsuen Wan Park and Ma On Shan Recreation Ground starting tomorrow, the Government added.
