Hamper reception probed

December 8, 2021

The Immigration Department today said it is following up on two officers who reportedly received hampers without making a declaration.

In a statement responding to media reports, the department said the officers concerned had informed their director of the gift reception right after receiving media enquiries on December 5.

They explained that they had received gifts from personal friends at a traditional festival. They did not make any declaration as there was no dealing in their official capacities, and the gift value did not exceed the relevant regulations.

The department stressed that it always attaches great importance to staff conduct. Any unlawful acts or misconduct found will be handled seriously in accordance with the law and established procedures, it added.
