Inquiry letters sent to electors

June 24, 2021

The Registration & Electoral Office started sending inquiry letters yesterday to more than 20,000 registered functional constituency (FC) electors concerning their eligibility for registration in their original constituencies.

The letters are being sent for compilation of the 2021 functional constituencies provisional register.

Under the Improving Electoral System (Consolidated Amendments) Ordinance 2021, the registration eligibility of certain functional constituencies has been deleted. Existing electors registered under such eligibility will be included in the inquiry process and receive inquiry letters.

The office said the letters are important and electors who receive the letters should open them and reply if applicable to them as soon as possible.

If a valid reply from the elector concerned is not received by July 5, their registered particulars will be included in the 2021 FCs omissions list to be published on or before September 26.

Electors included in the omissions list have to make a claim to the Revising Officer from September 26 to October 9, such that upon approval of the Revising Officer, their voter registration status may be reinstated and they may be included in the 2021 FCs final register and be able to vote in the Legislative Council General Election in December.

Under the ordinance, individual and corporate electors of functional constituencies who are no longer eligible to register in their original FC, or whose original FC has been deleted, and are eligible to register in another FC, may submit an application to register in any other FC for which they are eligible.
