Chief Executive Carrie Lam today said the Government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme will not offer more than one type of vaccine in one particular site to avoid confusion.

At a press conference today, Mrs Lam noted that individuals who wished to be vaccinated could choose when and where they wanted to receive the jab.

“We would be giving individuals the choice in terms of the timing of receiving the vaccination and also the site. Where does this individual want to get the vaccination? And by that, there will be choices because we now have procured three different vaccines.

“So I imagine that once we have rolled out the programme, a particular vaccine will be administered in a particular site, for example, a community vaccination centre, a private doctor's clinic, a hospital setting, or an elderly care home.

“So if the individual is able to choose - I do not want to go to the vaccination centre, I prefer to go to a private doctor because the private doctor’s site will use a particular vaccine, then the choice is there.”

Mrs Lam added that offering one vaccine in a particular site would ensure the right quantity of doses was available.

“I do not see how we could offer different types of vaccines in one site. That would be extremely confusing, especially as each of the three vaccines we have bought requires two doses.

“So we have to manage the quantity to make sure that if you choose this particular vaccine we will have a second dose available and ready for you to use. So it has to be done in that way.

“There will be choices, but I would say that it has to be exercised in accordance with a government administered vaccination programme. I hope that clears up the confusion or worries.”
