National security bodies meet

The CPG Office on National Security holds a co-ordination meeting with the Hong Kong SAR Committee on National Security.

The Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held a co-ordination meeting with the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region today to discuss the work on the implementation and enforcement of the National Security Law since it has come into effect.

 

Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who chairs the Hong Kong SAR Committee on National Security, led all the committee members to attend the meeting.

 

National Security Adviser to the Hong Kong SAR Committee on National Security appointed by the CPG Luo Huining, CPG Office on National Security head Zheng Yanxiong, and the office’s deputy heads Li Jiangzhou and Sun Qingye also attended the meeting.

 

The office and the committee were established at the beginning of this month in accordance with Article 48 and Article 12 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

 

As stipulated in Article 53 of the National Security Law, the office shall establish a mechanism of co-ordination with the committee as well as mechanisms for collaboration with the relevant authorities of the Hong Kong SAR responsible for safeguarding national security to enhance information sharing and operations co-ordination.

 

The committee shall be responsible for affairs relating to and assume primary responsibility for safeguarding national security in the Hong Kong SAR. It shall be under the supervision of and accountable to the CPG.

 

The office shall establish a mechanism of co-ordination with the committee and oversee and provide guidance on the work of the Hong Kong SAR for safeguarding national security.
