Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng meets US Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for Asia Charles Freeman (centre) in Washington, DC.

Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng met US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan and leaders of influential organisations in Washington, DC, yesterday.

 

Ms Cheng met Heritage Foundation Executive Vice President Kim Holmes as well as Development Research Group of the World Bank Economist Aart Kraay to brief them on Hong Kong’s latest developments.

 

She also met US Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for Asia Charles Freeman to discuss opportunities arising from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area development and Hong Kong's efforts to promote dispute resolution services.

 

In the afternoon, Ms Cheng spoke at Georgetown University Law Center on the dynamics of international legal norms.

 

She said with Asia becoming one of the most important and dynamic regions in international affairs, it has also risen to become an active and influential player in international relations, especially in the fields of international trade, investment and environment protection.

 

In the area of international dispute resolution, Ms Cheng added Asia can play a role in the development of international law on a global basis.
