No politics in court decisions: CE

June 12, 2018

Courts have no political consideration when handing down decisions.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam made the statement to the media before attending today's Executive Council meeting.

Speaking a day after Edward Leung was jailed for his involvement in the Mong Kok riot, Mrs Lam said court decisions are based on law and evidence, not politics.

She rejected claims that laws were being used politically against social movements or people seeking democracy.

People must voice their views in a lawful way, she added.
