The Leisure & Cultural Services Department's Guangdong Music Series will feature the concert Nanyin in Guangdong Music - The Legacy of Dr Ng Wing-mui in February.
Ng Wing-mui fondly known as Auntie Mui passed away last year and her legacy and contribution to the Guangdong music tradition of South China - especially to nanyin narrative singing - are being remembered in the tribute concert.
The show will feature Cantonese opera star and nanyin artist, Yuen Siu-fai who will perform his two bravura pieces, Burning Funerary Goods for His Love and King Chu Bidding Farewell to His Concubine.
While up-and-coming nanyin singer, Leung Hoi-lee will perform The Lone Wild Goose and The Third Watch from Nocturnal Lament in tribute to the late mentor, mother-figure and esteemed veteran artist.
The concert will start at 8pm on February 11, at the Ko Shan Theatre.
Separately, local music expert Prof Yu Siu-wah will host a talk on Ng's art and how it reveals the long-standing connection in musical culture between Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong, at 7.30pm on February 12 at the Cultural Centre.
