Gan Opera Theatre of Jiangxi Province, a regional Chinese opera genre with more than 500 years of history, will perform a selection of classics for the Chinese Opera Festival in August.
Inscribed onto the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China, Gan opera evolved from "yiyangqiang", one of the four major southern vocal styles in the Ming dynasty, having taken on influences from "kunqiang" and "tanqiang" plays.
The performances will be held at City Hall from August 3 to 5. Tickets at $240, $160 and $100 are available at URBTIX.
