First school day transport monitored

August 25, 2014

The Transport Department’s Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will be on active duty on September 1 to ensure transportation runs smoothly on the first day of the school year.

Staff will be deployed throughout the city to observe traffic conditions and provide information to the centre to arrange public transport service enhancement when necessary.

The department has reminded major public transport operators to provide adequate services to cater for transport demand on the day.

Students, especially those attending a new school, are reminded to familiarise themselves with public transport services to schools, and to allow more travel time for the first school day.

As bus route rationalisation plans have been implemented in Kwai Tsing, Sha Tin and North District during the summer holidays, services may have changed.

Students living on outlying islands or attending schools there should check ferry schedules, vessel types and journey times for their trips beforehand.
