Work safety volunteers sought

June 02, 2011
Volunteers are being recruited to visit workplaces to promote the Labour Department's services on occupational safety and health.

The Customer Service Teams Project has been run since 1999 with the Social Welfare Department to enhance occupational safety and health awareness in the workplace.

This year’s target sectors are food and beverage services; minor works contractors of repair, maintenance, alteration and addition works; and small-and-medium enterprises of the retail trade, pest control and cleaning services.

The department wants to recruit 250 volunteers to visit 15,000 establishments from June to September to conduct surveys to assess the basic work safety and health knowledge of people in charge of the organisations visited.

They will also distribute publicity materials on occupational safety and health, and relevant laws.

Anyone aged 17 or above with secondary school level education can volunteer. They will be given a day's training on the project, basic safety knowledge and communication skills. Certificates will be awarded upon project completion.

Enrolment forms and project details can be downloaded here. For enquiries call 2852 3565 or 2234 0100.

Since the inception of the Customer Service Teams Project, more than 170,000 workplaces have been visited by volunteers.
