Secretary for Education Michael Suen says the enhanced voluntary class reduction scheme will offer flexibility to solve problems different secondary schools face, and most schools should find it acceptable. Details will be announced in the next two to three weeks.
Speaking on a radio talk show today, Mr Suen said they have been discussing the scheme with different schools and they have agreed reducing the number of classes they teach is the best solution to prevent school closures.
He said the authority has a better understanding of the particular problems facing each school and the enhanced scheme should be able to address them.
The scheme, with details to be announced within the next three weeks, will offer flexibility to schools on retaining excess teachers. It will also retain the number of schools and prevent big gaps among the students’ levels within the same school.
Seven secondary schools in Tai Po have already pledged to join the scheme in the next academic year.
