May 15, 2016

Police will set up a security zone outside the Convention & Exhibition Centre which will host the Belt & Road Summit from May 17 to 19.

National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang will attend the summit.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Cheng Yiu-mo said at a press conference today Police will close roads and divert traffic to ensure the event is conducted in a safe and orderly manner.

He appealed to the public to follow directions from Police officers.

A designated public activities area will be set up outside the security zone for demonstrations and public meetings.

He said while Police fully respect people's right to hold demonstrations and public meetings, and peaceful activities will be facilitated as much as possible, any act of violence or threat to safety will not be tolerated.

Police will take resolute action to deal with such behaviour, he added.
