Gov’t expresses regret over forced entry

The Government today expressed regret over the forced entry by public meeting participants into the Central Government Offices’ East Wing Forecourt yesterday.
 
The pavement outside the offices and Tim Mei Avenue were opened to facilitate the public meeting. However, some participants broke through the security gate and climbed over the fencing into the forecourt, followed by others, despite the repeated advice of security personnel.
 
A number of people including CGO staff, security personnel, police officers and meeting participants were hurt.
 
The Government regrets that while those taking part maintained it was a non-violent and peaceful meeting, they forced their way into the forecourt leading to injuries.
 
The Government has all along respected the public's freedom of expression and assembly, and urges people to express their views peacefully and rationally.
 
They should also observe the law and social order and take into account the safety of themselves and the others.
