TK Lai backs IPCC appointment

Secretary for Security TK Lai has backed new Independent Police Complaints Council Chairman Larry Kwok.
Speaking to the media after today’s Fight Crime Committee meeting, Mr Lai said the appointment was made according to standard procedure and he expects Mr Kwok to excel in the position.
In selecting a suitable candidate, the Government considered the individual's experience, professional knowledge, ability and determination to serve the public.
He said Mr Kwok has been serving in many Government commissions and has a good legal background, adding he can lead the council impartially.
Mr Lai said the council is a statutory body with a professional secretariat, and three deputy chairmen and 20 experienced members will support Mr Kwok.
