Zervos appointed as judge

Former Director of Public Prosecutions Kevin Zervos has been appointed Judge of the Court of First Instance from September 16, the Judiciary announced today.
 
The appointment was made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.
 
Due to Mr Zervos' previous post, he will not deal with any criminal trials or appeals, or any civil cases involving the Government, for six months.
 
Mr Zervos was born in Australia in 1953. He graduated from Monash University with degrees in Psychology and Law in 1975 and 1977, and earned a Master of Laws in Human Rights from Hong Kong University in 2009.
 
He joined the Attorney General's Chambers as Crown Counsel in 1992, and was promoted to Principal Government Counsel in 2008. He took up the post of Director of Public Prosecutions in 2011.
