The Housing Department has been striving to enhance public housing estates’ green coverage and after years of effort, many gardens are filled with colourful blossoms during the blooming season, adding charm to the housing complexes.
The department manages around 100,000 trees at public housing estates and has added new features such as green roofs and community gardens at several estates.
Greening not only provides a pleasant and relaxing natural environment for tenants but also helps reduce heat and address pollution problems.
Where possible, each estate will have green coverage of at least 20% of the total site area and the coverage will increase to 30% for sites larger than two hectares, with at least one tree for every 15 flats, the department said.
