The Tree Management Office is very concerned about the recent tree collapses triggered by unstable weather and has asked tree management departments to re-inspect trees with higher safety risk.
The inspections will cover stonewall trees and roadside trees in areas with high pedestrian and vehicular flow.
The office will provide professional technical advice to help the departments handle any tree problems.
It will also boost audit checks on tree risk assessments to ensure guidelines have been followed, and refer problematic trees to relevant departments for remedial measures.
Tree management departments had completed 37,600 risk assessments on trees as at the end of last month, according to the Guidelines for Tree Risk Assessment & Management Arrangement.
They removed 4,200 trees and carried out 17,200 risk mitigation measures, such as pruning, removal of wilted branches, treatment of pest and disease, and installation of tree support systems.
