Harbourfront collaboration considered

June 08, 2011
Secretary for Development Carrie Lam says the Government is exploring whether there are other harbourfront sites on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island which can be developed by public-private collaboration.

Mrs Lam told legislators today the Government is planning to develop a temporary waterfront promenade on Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay, at two adjoining sites, and the nearby site above the Eastern Harbour Crossing exit by way of public-private collaboration.

The Planning Department has collected more views in the recently completed Stage 3 Public Engagement Programme of the Hong Kong Island East Harbour-front Study. Options recommended in the study will be considered, and the entire study is expected to be completed this year, she said.

The Government is also planning to develop some of the eight key sites on the new Central harbourfront by way of public-private collaboration.

Through this approach, Mrs Lam said the Government hopes to capture the creativity and expertise of the private sector for more innovative design options so a vibrant, green and accessible new harbourfront can be created for public enjoyment.
