Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man and MTR Corporation Chairman Prof Frederick Ma will launch a citywide campaign to promote organ donation on October 15.
The launch ceremony will be followed by a bus parade, and publicity booths will be set up at 15 MTR stations that day for healthcare professionals to answer enquiries on organ donation and transplantation.
Announcing details of the campaign today, Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Leung Ting-hung said in just five months since the Committee on Promotion of Organ Donation was established, the number of registrations at the Centralised Organ Donation Register has exceeded 24,500.
It is more than the annual registration number in 2013 and 2014, and also accounts for over 80% of the annual total in 2015, he added.
People are encouraged to register their donation wish by completing the Organ Donation Form available at the MTR booths.
They can also register on board the Department of Health's organ donation promotion vehicle which will make stops across Hong Kong in November.
The campaign will run until December.
