Creative community:  Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah (fifth left) is joined by other guests to open the Tai Po Youth Arts Festival at the former Tai Po Government Secondary School.

Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah today opened the Tai Po Youth Arts Festival.

With "Arts & Fun" as the main theme, the two-day programme offers a wide range of activities including puppet shows, music, dancing and circus performances, and arts workshops.

The large-scale event ties in with the district's Arts Centre Project under the Signature Project Scheme aimed at enhancing district administration.

Mr Lau commended the project as a high-quality proposal that promotes arts at the district level and provides arts groups with spaces to create and perform.

It can also foster cultural exchange between arts groups and residents as well as enhance community participation in the arts, he added.

Mr Lau noted that half of the 27 Signature Project Scheme projects, including the Arts Centre Project in Tai Po, are still waiting to be vetted and approved by the Legislative Council’s Public Works Subcommittee and Finance Committee.

He urged the committees to screen and approve the projects for implementation in the interest of the community.
