The Government did not take part in the formation of the newly-established Hong Kong Army Cadets Association, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing said today, adding the Government did not fund it, participate in its operation nor co-organise any of its activities.
Addressing a lawmaker’s question today, Mr Tsang said his bureau has not received any funding application from the organisation. If it does, the bureau will consider it thoroughly, in accordance with established criteria.
He welcomes the new uniformed group's establishment, and hopes it will work on its corporate governance and improve its transparency, to allow the community a better understanding of the organisation and avoid unnecessary speculation and concerns.
Mr Tsang added that the cadets association is an autonomous civil organisation that has no subordinating relationship with the Hong Kong Garrison. The garrison did not participate in its establishment, and will not participate in its operation nor provide any financial support.
