Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says the Government will gauge views about new poverty alleviation measures, and she hopes the measures can be announced in the Chief Executive’s next policy address.

Mrs Lam told reporters today the Government is responsible for poverty alleviation and it will continue to support families, including those above the poverty line. Existing measures which target these families will continue, and they will not be excluded in future policies, she said.

She said proposals received so far focused on supporting low-income employees. The Government will analyse and discuss them with the Commission on Poverty, and hopes to hear more proposals to formulate policies.

She said the business sector also hopes the Government can carry out poverty alleviation work effectively, to support employment.
