The Tuen Mun North West Swimming Pool, featuring environmental, greening and energy conservation concepts, has officially opened in a ceremony under the Vibrant Hong Kong theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.
Director of Leisure & Cultural Services Betty Fung noted the swimming pool's design provides considerable green space, helping to keep swimmers away from the hustle bustle of the city.
It applies architectural techniques in energy conservation, including channel glass walls to capture natural light, a solar water-heating system and a rainwater collection system for rooftop greenery irrigation.
All facilities comply with guidelines for barrier-free access for the disabled, she said.
The facility is the first such complex in the district to offer indoor heated pool facilities and a Jacuzzi, she said, allowing residents to exercise year round.
The complex sits on 1.5 hectares and is the third swimming facility in Tuen Mun.
It has a 25m by 25m indoor training pool, an indoor leisure pool, a 50m by 25m standard main pool, a 25m by 15m training pool, and a 25m by 12m teaching pool. The main pool is suitable for swimming competitions and has an 800-seat spectator stand.
The complex is at 95 Ming Kum Road, next to Po Tin Estate, Light Rail Transit Tuen Mun Tin King stop, and many bus stops (route numbers 58M, 58X, 258D, 260X, 960, 960A, 960B, B3A and E33P). Click
