Saudi coronavirus monitored

May 24, 2013
The Department of Health is monitoring a new novel coronavirus case that Saudi Arabia has reported to the World Health Organisation.

It involves a 63-year-old man with an underlying illness from the central part of the country, who was admitted to hospital on May 15 and died on May 20.

The case is unrelated to the outbreak at a healthcare facility in the east part of the country, where 22 cases including 10 deaths have been reported.

This brings the latest global number of confirmed cases to 44, including 22 deaths.

The Centre for Health Protection will remain vigilant and continue to work closely with overseas health authorities.

No human infection with this virus has been identified in Hong Kong.
