From noon yesterday to noon today, the Centre for Health Protection received no notification of suspected human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) cases fulfilling reporting criteria. Five cases not meeting the criteria were noted.
All cases tested negative for H7. A 28-year-old man who had visited Shanghai is in critical condition at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The total number of notifications since March 31 of cases fulfilling reporting criteria of suspected human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) remains at 19, and the total number of notifications not fulfilling reporting criteria is now 64.
The Ministry of Agriculture reported a specimen from a chicken in the live poultry market in Dongguan, Guangdong had tested positive for the disease. The centre says Guangdong is now included in the list of affected areas.
The centre urges travellers not to visit wet markets with live poultry in the affected areas, and to avoid direct contact with poultry, birds or their droppings.
No confirmed human cases have been recorded so far in Hong Kong.
