More Taiwan egg imports banned

January 21, 2013
The Centre for Food Safety has banned egg imports from Miaoli County in Taiwan due to an avian influenza outbreak.

It received notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health about the outbreak today.

Egg imports from Penghu County have been banned since November 23.

Hong Kong does not import live poultry or poultry meat from Taiwan, but a small quantity of poultry eggs are imported.

According to information from major importers, eggs from Taiwan have not been supplied by Miaoli County.

The centre said it will closely monitor the latest situation.
