Nicorette gum recalled

October 19, 2012
The Department of Health today endorsed the recall by Johnson & Johnson Consumer (Hong Kong) of a batch of Nicorette Chewing Piece 4mg 105's (Registration No.HK-25612) due to a labelling error. The batch number is NL752C.

The promotional flag label of 2mg was wrongly affixed to the Nicorette 4mg batch by the local distributor Healthcare Division O/B LF Asia (HK).

The error may cause an increase in the occurrence of possible adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting and headache, if 2mg users inadvertently use the 4mg gum.

Records state 614 boxes of the affected batch were imported to Hong Kong and the promotional flag label of 2mg was affixed to the outer box of the product by the local distributor.

The batch was then released to the market, and 461 boxes were sold to the Hospital Authority and retailers, while 120 boxes were exported to Macau.

The department has notified Macau authorities, and will monitor the recall.

Johnson & Johnson has set up a hotline (2628 9775) for enquires.

Healthcare professionals and retailers must stop supplying the affected batch, and customers should stop taking it. Anyone feeling unwell after taking it should consult their doctors.
