Intestinal infection warning issued
June 14, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection today warned people to guard against bacillary dysentery, as six cases of the intestinal infection have been recorded so far this month.
The two men and three women, aged six to 14, and all Tuen Mun residents, fell ill from June 3 to 6.
All sought medical consultation and three were hospitalised. All are stable.
Bacillary dysentery is caused by Shigella bacteria, which can be found in the human gut. It occurs more commonly amongst young children and more cases are recorded in summer.
