More Chinese medicine capsules recalled

May 07, 2012
All Hong Kong Medicine Manufactory registered proprietary Chinese medicines in capsule form are being recalled, the Department of Health said today.

This comes in the wake of a recall of the manufacturer’s Germany Wintex Brand Herbal Sep Capsules yesterday, which were found to be tainted with chromium. Another two proprietary Chinese medicines, [ED-HO] HVO Lo Ling Capsule (Registration number HKP-12608) and [Germany Herbs Brand] Pharmastone (Registration number HKP-11318) were also found to contain excessive chromium.

Although the investigation is ongoing, the department felt a total recall was warranted in the interest of public safety. It involves 35 capsule-form proprietary Chinese medicines. Click here for the list of recalled products.

If one consumes the products according to their dosage instructions, the level of chromium detected is unlikely to cause harmful effects, according to the World Health Organisation.

Call the manufacturer's hotline, 2421 6382, for enquiries.
