Liaoning poultry imports suspended

Liaoning poultry imports suspended

April 26, 2012

The Centre for Food Safety today suspended the import of poultry products, including eggs and frozen poultry, from Liaoning for three weeks.

The move was implemented due to a confirmed case of avian influenza H5N1 in Dalian.

About 28,000 tonnes of frozen poultry and 103 million poultry eggs from the province were imported last year.

The centre said the Government has developed a zonal approach policy as a general guideline in dealing with different outbreak scenarios in Guangdong and other provinces.

In the event of a confirmed case of avian influenza poultry infection in any province outside Guangdong, the import of poultry products from that province will be suspended for at least 21 days.
