Infection advisory issued
March 29, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection today called on the public to take precautions against hand, foot and mouth disease, and Enterovirus-71 infection, which are about to hit their high seasons.
In the week ending March 24, the centre received 10 reports of hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks in institutions. The figure was higher than the number recorded in the preceding three weeks, which ranged from two to five outbreaks a week.
A significant increase in hand, foot and mouth disease activity has been detected in childcare centres and kindergartens recently.
The centre has sent letters to childcare centres, kindergartens, and primary and secondary schools, alerting them to the situation and providing advice on prevention and control.
