The Department of Health has endorsed Roche's recall of a batch of its cancer medicine Xeloda Tab 500mg (registration number HK-46234) due to improper preparation of the single active ingredient.
The ingredient was manufactured in the US. The issue affects one batch of Xeloda imported to Hong Kong - batch number X0106B01.
Xeloda is a prescription medicine for the treatment of colorectal, breast and gastric cancer. It should be dispensed only on a doctor's prescription.
Thirty-five boxes have been supplied to local private hospitals, private doctors and pharmacies, while 162 boxes have been exported to Macau. The department has notified the parties concerned and Macau authorities.
