Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow urges healthcare workers to get influenza vaccinations as they are more exposed to flu viruses and risk infecting their patients.
He said the peak flu period for Hong Kong appears to be arriving early this year, with the number of viral isolations doubling last week on previous weeks.
In the UK, more than 90 people have died of flu this season, he said.
Dr Chow urged the public to guard against flu, saying risky groups should get vaccinated as soon as possible. As the vaccine usually works best two weeks after the injection, it is much better to have it early than late, he added.
