The Government is committed to transforming Hong Kong into a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

This was the message from Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So speaking at a symposium in Chicago yesterday.

He said Hong Kong strives to provide a vibrant ecosystem for innovation and technology to grow, and creates an enabling environment to help startups and tech enterprises succeed.

Geographically, Hong Kong is strategically located in the heart of Asia and on the doorstep of Mainland China, and is the most convenient base for startups and tech enterprises to tap into Asia's huge market potential.

"Hong Kong has a comprehensive intellectual property protection regime to effectively protect the fruits of innovation and creativity," he said, adding Hong Kong is ready to develop into a regional marketplace and service centre for licensing, franchising and IP registration.

Before the symposium, Mr So met with US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Stefan Selig.

Mr So is accompanying Chief Executive CY Leung on his US duty visit, and will return to Hong Kong on June 12.
