July 17, 2013
Financial Secretary John Tsang started his two-day visit to Guangzhou and Dongguan today, to foster closer economic co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong.
Mr Tsang visited the Guangzhou Nansha Economic & Social Development Exhibition Hall after arriving in Nansha Port this morning, to learn about its positioning as a national-grade new district.
It was followed by a lunch meeting with Guangzhou Mayor Chen Jianhua and Secretary of the CPC Nansha District Committee Ding Hongdu.
In the afternoon, a tour of the Nansha Information Technology Park was held for Mr Tsang to see the high-tech development there.
His next stop was the Nansha Bonded Port Area, the nation's fifth such zone, and the first in Guangdong to have passed the acceptance test.
Last on Mr Tsang's programme in Nansha was a visit to a Hong Kong-funded enterprise specialising in automotive component products, followed by a dinner meeting with Guangdong Vice-Governor Chen Yunxian.
Mr Tsang said at the meeting that Hong Kong can make reference to Guangzhou on various fronts and that the two places should seek a win-win solution to further develop renminbi business.
Nansha is listed among the key co-operation areas in the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong-Guangdong Co-operation and is one of the major co-operation projects among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau under the dedicated chapter on Hong Kong and Macau in the National 12th Five-Year Plan.
Mr Tsang will head for Dongguan tomorrow.
