Economic commission established

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau today announced the establishment of the Economic Development Commission and its four working groups. The Chief Executive will chair the body and appoint its members.
It comprises the Working Group on Transportation; the Working Group on Convention & Exhibition Industries, & Tourism; the Working Group on Manufacturing Industries, Innovative Technology, & Cultural & Creative Industries; and, the Working Group on Professional Services.
It will have 22 non-official members and four ex-officio members – the Financial Secretary, the Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, the Secretary for Development, and the Secretary for Transport & Housing.
The Chief Executive announced in his Policy Address yesterday that the commission would be established.
Its terms of reference include providing visionary direction and advice to the Government on the overall strategy and policy to broaden Hong Kong's economic base and to enhance economic growth and development.
It will explore and identify growth sectors, or clusters of sectors, which present opportunities for Hong Kong's economic growth, and recommend policy and other support for these industries.
