February 29, 2012
Visitor arrivals to Hong Kong in January reached 4.14 million in January, a 15.1% year-on year increase.

The Tourism Board announced today the growth was mainly led by the increased visitor traffic from Mainland China during the Chinese New Year holiday. More than 3.1million of the arrivals came from the Mainland, up 23.9%.

Of these, 69.5% or more than 2.15 million travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme, 24.5% more than last January.

Short-haul regions arrivals recorded a 4.9% year-on-year decrease, but South Korea and the Philippines registered growth of 7.7% and 10.3%.

Long-haul region arrivals were also down, by 6.2%. Among these, the Americas recorded a decrease of 7.7% while Europe, Africa and the Middle East fell 6.3%.
