FS urges investor caution

Financial Secretary John Tsang advises investors to stay vigilant as the finance market will remain volatile for some time.
Speaking to the media in Honolulu before attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation Finance Ministers’ Meeting today, Mr Tsang said a lot of economic issues in the Eurozone are becoming political issues for some countries and they will persist for some time. Economic growth in the US has been slow while the unemployment rate remains high.
“All of these issues are causing some repercussions in Asia, including Hong Kong. You can see our [economic] growth this year has been reduced, largely because exports have been very weak. I think that will continue so I would like to take this opportunity to advise investors, particularly small investors, to be careful in their investments and do the things they need,” he said.
He said there will be discussions about the economic growth prospects at the APEC meeting, while the financial market regulatory issues are on the agenda as well.
