Recycling body set up

February 01, 2016

The Environment Bureau today announced the establishment of the Steering Group on the Modification of Recycling & Refuse Collection Facilities in Public Places.

The move will further enhance the Government's waste reduction and resource recovery efforts in support of the implementation of quantity-based municipal solid waste charging.

Secretary for the Environment KS Wong said: "Taking into account the objectives of facilitating waste reduction and resource recovery, effective implementation of quantity-based municipal solid waste charging, and balancing the need for upholding environmental hygiene and cost-effectiveness in the use of public resources, the Steering Group will review the existing situation regarding the provision of recycling and refuse collection facilities and recommend necessary modifications."

Chaired by Mr Wong, the steering group comprises members from the design and planning, academia and business sectors, non-profit groups and district personalities, as well as government departments. Their two-year terms start today.
