Bottle recycling expo opens
March 01, 2013
The Environmental Protection Department today opened the first of a series of roving exhibitions on glass bottle recycling at Maritime Square in Tsing Yi.
It is part of the department's three-month public consultation on the mandatory producer responsibility scheme on glass beverage bottles.
Running until March 4, the exhibition will raise public awareness on these issues.
About 150 tonnes of glass bottles are generated in Hong Kong daily, placing pressure on Hong Kong's limited landfill capacity.
The Government has proposed implementing a mandatory scheme on glass bottles so stakeholders can share the environmental responsibility for proper bottle disposal.
The show features information panels, game booths and a glass recycling counter, at which people can redeem souvenirs when they hand in rinsed bottles.
The exhibition will later move to Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Times Square and Lok Fu Plaza.
