Action taken on Chai Wan noise
February 22, 2012
Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau has assured that the Government is following up on the retrofitting of noise barriers on a section of Chai Wan Road near Neptune Terrace.
Mr Yau told the Legislative Council today the Highways Department's consultant proposed building a semi-enclosure and cantilevered noise barriers in that section, and relocating the bus stop nearby.
Since December 2010, the Environmental Protection and Highways Departments have been updating the Eastern District Council on the noise barrier works. The latest update was provided on February 2. The departments will follow up on the works.
The Highways Department has considered resurfacing the section with low-noise material. However, because the road is steep with frequent bus traffic, low-noise surfacing material will wear easily, he said, therefore low-noise surfacing is not a suitable option.
Mr Yau added the Government will complete the noise barrier retrofit works on six sections of Tuen Mun Road and two sections of the Fanling Highway in the next five years.
