Zhang Dejiang arrives in HK

Touch down:  National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang arrives in Hong Kong.

Itinerary begins:  Mr Zhang briefs the media, flanked by Chief Executive CY Leung (left) and Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Wang Guangya.

Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang arrived in Hong Kong at midday today for a three-day visit.

 

He was accompanied by Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Wang Guangya, National People's Congress Standing Committee Deputy Secretary-General and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Basic Law Committee Chairman Li Fei, and State Council Deputy Secretary-General Jiang Zelin.

 

Chief Executive CY Leung greeted Mr Zhang at the airport.

 

The welcoming party included Central People's Government Liaison Office Director Zhang Xiaoming, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam, Financial Secretary John Tsang, Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen, Legislative Council President Jasper Tsang, Executive Council Non-official Members Convenor Lam Woon-kwong, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Commissioner in the HKSAR Song Zhe, Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Commander-in-Chief Tan Benhong and Political Commissar Yue Shixin.

 

Mr Zhang shook hands with the welcoming party and spoke to reporters.

 

He said he wants to see how Hong Kong has changed since his previous visit 12 years ago, and see the living conditions of Hong Kong people.

 

He said he will be updated by Mr Leung on the work of the Chief Executive and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and will hear views from Hong Kong people on the implementation of the "one country, two systems" and "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" principles.

 

Mr Zhang will speak at the Belt & Road Summit and at other events, to affirm the care of the Central Government for Hong Kong and its people.
