Chief Executive CY Leung met Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Hu Chunhua and Guangdong Governor Zhu Xiaodan in Beijing today.
Mr Leung said the two sides have had closer co-operation in economy and trade, culture, technology and youth exchange, and believes there is room for even closer co-operation.
Mr Hu said he is keen to improve Guangdong's relationship with Hong Kong, adding the city accounts for 20% of the province's external trade.
Hong Kong is also Guangdong’s biggest investment source, investing more than $20 billion into the province last year, Mr Hu noted.
Mr Leung also attended the opening of the second session of the 12th National People’s Congress this morning.
