Lee Po crossing investigated

March 01, 2016

The Government will investigate how bookseller Lee Po managed to leave Hong Kong without going through the usual immigration procedures.

Chief Executive CY Leung and Security TK Lai spoke to reporters on the case before this morning's Executive Council meeting.

A Hong Kong Police officer and an Immigration Department officer met Mr Lee yesterday on the Mainland.

Mr Lee told them that with the help of friends he returned to the Mainland by his own means voluntarily and was not abducted, but he refused to elaborate.

Mr Leung said: “Soon after the report was made by Mr Lee's wife, she actually withdrew the case, but the Hong Kong Police and other parts of the Hong Kong Government continued the investigation into Mr Lee's case. And it really underlined the importance that the Hong Kong Government as a whole, and the Police in particular, attached to this case.”

Mr Lai said Police and the Immigration Department will investigate how Mr Lee left Hong Kong by his own means.
