CE follows up on bookseller's case

January 17, 2016

Chief Executive CY Leung says he has been following up on a missing bookseller’s case over the past two weeks and has continued to ask Mainland authorities for information.

Mr Leung told reporters today that under the “one country, two systems” and “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong” principles, a high degree of autonomy and the Basic Law, only Hong Kong law enforcement officers have the legal authority to enforce laws in Hong Kong.

The Government would not allow illegal activities such as forcibly removing a person, he added.

Mr Leung said some facts are still unclear and are under investigation, but that the Government would announce more details if doing so did not impede the Police probe, and urged people to come forward with information.
