CE meets UK officials

(October 16, 2015)

Chief Executive CY Leung met with British political leaders yesterday, on the first day of his United Kingdom visit.

Mr Leung witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on health co-operation between Hong Kong and the UK by Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man and British Public Health Under Secretary Jane Ellison.

The accord boosts co-operation and exchanges in healthcare policy and protection.

The Chief Executive said Hong Kong-UK ties scale new heights under the agreement and that he looks forward to even closer co-operation.

Mr Leung then held talks with British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and noted that Hong Kong-UK relations have been flourishing, adding that he looked forward to more British businesses exploring the Mainland and Asia markets through Hong Kong.

He then headed to the UK Parliament for a meeting with All-Party Parliamentary China Group members to update them on Hong Kong's latest developments.

Mr Leung highlighted that the "one country, two systems" principle, "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy under the Basic law have been successfully implemented since Hong Kong's return to the Mainland.
